URECA started with a vision to make carbon markets more transparent and accessible through technology. One of our flagship projects, the Coal-to-Solar (C2S) initiative, is now helping low-income families transition from coal to renewable energy in the coldest capital in the world.
Solution
URECA’s comprehensive solution integrates smart monitoring technology, renewable energy systems, and enhanced insulation to provide sustainable heating and energy for families in Ulaanbaatar’s ger districts. By transitioning from coal to solar-powered heating systems, URECA helps reduce emissions, improve air quality, and ensure families have reliable, clean heat and power during the harsh winters.
Impact
URECA’s Coal-to-Solar (C2S) project is driving meaningful change for climate displaced families in Ulaanbaatar. Each household reduces up to 15 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually, enabling them to generate an equivalent amount of carbon credits. This financial return from the sale of carbon credits helps support families in their transition to clean energy. Beyond emissions reduction, the project is unlocking the potential of carbon markets to scale initiatives that were previously unbankable. As the initiative expands across the Cental and Southeast Asia region (cooling), its cumulative impact has the potential to significantly reduce emissions and improve air quality on a much larger scale.
